God's Promises Are True

I feel so foolish even typing those words. For most of us our first reaction is... "thanks for stating the obvious. " :) But I think that more often than not we say one thing, but our actions prove that we believe another. It reminds me of the saying, "People may not always believe what you say, but they will always believe what you live."

About a month ago I quoted Psalm 37, and what a comfort it was to us during a very difficult time! It speaks repeatedly of evildoers being cut off and punished, and promises that we will see it. :0)

I'm here to attest once again that it is true, and God's timing is always perfect. He knows the weakness of our faith, so He often allows things to happen sooner rather than later to encourage the growth of our faith. I'm convinced it's also because He is merciful. I was reading in my devotions this evening how Pilate marvelled that Jesus had died in such a short period of time. We may not always see God's mercy, but it is there nonetheless. He is faithful.

About a month ago Josh's supervisor got unreasonably upset over a mere scratch on someone's head. At the time, we thought it was suspicious, but he cunningly turned it around, and made it seem to onlookers who weren't directly involved that he was upset all along with the insubordination that was purportedly displayed by Josh and two of his coworkers.

My first response, as Josh will attest, was that he was trying too hard to pass the buck. He must have something to hide.

Only two weeks to the day later, this man was indefinitely suspended from returning to work pending the results of an ethics investigation. One short week later, he was found guilty and promptly fired. All within one month as a most unexpected answer to our many prayers of faith. God had been working behind the scenes for many months prior to this incident. I can't tell you how often this has happened to us. I LOVE it when He allows us to see His purpose and plan and faithfulness in the end. Some things we won't know this side of heaven, but what a blessing it is when we find out sooner! :)

I wish I could convey to you the depth of conviction that I felt while reading Psalm 37. It was as if God was earnestly imploring me personally not to worry; that these things were without a doubt going to happen in this specific case. It was so definite, and made me feel foolish, but inexplicably relieved at the same time.

How I wish I accepted the rest of God's Word with that same intense conviction of purpose. God's Word is His love letter to me, personally. Unworthy, unimportant me. I'm a nobody. But the Bible is a Living Book. It's the same for you, and others who take the time to love it, and read it, and live it.

"Great peace have they which love thy law, and nothing shall offend them." The reason it promises great peace is because only by reading it often can we keep in the forefront of our minds the incomprehensible goodness of God. I can hardly believe my own propensity to forget.

Despite the grim outlook facing our country, and the persecutions of Christians that will undoubtedly come, I am praising God that He is still on the throne. He is the Ruler of all. I can honestly say that I will not, I'm determined I will not, be afraid of evil tidings. My heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
